Elements of a Quantum Internet

Suppose we are just sending photons (light) using optical fibers, just the same way we do so for classical internet. Why can't why use the same repeaters as well? 

Because classical repeaters are based on copying the information. However, quantum information cannot be copied due to the no-cloning theorem and thus classical repeaters cannot be used.
